I Can't Breathe... Until You Are STUDYING Here With Me

Hi people!! How are you doing?What about the return to school after the long wekend??? It won't be easy to BREATHE so early in the morning!! XD

Well, for you to remember that the verb is (to)breathE/d and the noun is BREATH , these are two of  my fav songs that contain these words: HERE WITH ME by DIDO (the tittle of this post is a line in this song)



and "Every step you take" in Glee's version

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM???????






 I think you might like this video for  an accurate picture of the system. WOW!!!!!

As you  can see, the respiratory system is basically a long tube with two sacs at the end, with NO bones, only cartilages inside the tube (to prevent it from collapsing) and muscles outside the sacs to make them larger or smaller. This tube is covered by a thin EPITHELIUM that is full of CILLIA and secretes MUCUS  to prevent bacteria and other harmful substances to get to the ALVEOLI.

A break from Winter Break

I would like a photo frame that looks like a newspaper page (or whatever you think convenient) that we will stick on the school hall and every Thursday one member of the class will bring something interesting about science to share with the class and the school. Vaccinate or Not Vaccinate... is that even a question?

Well, this was at least the situation back in January 2015!!!

Measles was confirmed in 59 California residents. Additionally, there were a handful of related cases in Utah, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, and Mexico—bringing the 2015 total to 67, according to the California Department of Public Health.
The patients in California ranged in age between seven months and 70 years, and at least 28 of them were unvaccinated. But that wasn’t all by choice: Six are infants who were too young to receive the shot. The first dose of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine is typically given to children 12 months or older, with the second dose administered before they start kindergarten around age five.
Of the confirmed cases, 42 were linked to Disneyland or Disney California Adventure Park in Orange County.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads rapidly through the air from coughing and sneezing. The initial exposures occurred in December, but additional confirmed cases visited the parks while they were infectious in January. Less than two weeks ago, only nine cases were confirmed in this California-centered outbreak.
Because there are also cases where the patients haven’t visited Disneyland—or any venues where travelers congregate, such as other amusement parks and airports—the health department recommends that measles be considered in any patient with clinically compatible symptoms at this time. It usually starts with a fever that lasts a couple of days, followed by coughing, runny nose, pink eye, and a rash that appears on the face, hairline, behind the ears, and eventually the entire body.
The U.S. experienced a record number of measles cases in 2014, with 644 cases in 27 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s the greatest number of cases since measles elimination was documented in the country in 2000.

Heart Dissection is On!!

Hi people!!!!! How are you doing after the VIATOR retreat (retiro) ?? I know the this is a major event in 4th year and I hope it gave all of you a lot to think about and the chance to find these answers you still haven't found and you are looking for. 



Believe it or not, this song is not about finding the prefect boy or girl, it's about finding THE perfect love, God's love. I´m sure he accompanied you through those days and helped you discover the special light we all have inside and that makes us unique.

Next Friday (June 16th) we are dissecting the heart!!!!
So, first of all, let me clarify some rules for the lab:

Safety Rules in the Laboratory

1.   During experiments, listen carefully to instructions and follow them as exactly as you can. In case of confusion or uncertainty, ask questions! Performing unauthorized experiments will not be tolerated.

2.   No horseplay will be tolerated.

3.   Never eat in lab or drink out of glassware. Never taste or smell anything unless you are given specific directions to do so.

4.   Any injury, major or minor (cut, burn, etc.), must be reported to the teacher at once. Put cold water on burns first. Chemical spills should be washed off immediately with water. Know the location of all laboratory safety equipment. Chemicals in the eyes must be flushed immediately with the eyewash. Hold the eye open, rotate the eyeball, and continue washing for 10-15 minutes.

5.   Do not touch equipment without permission. All unauthorized experimentation is strictly forbidden. This includes all chemicals, models, or apparatus. Complete all pre-lab work. Don’t do any lab procedures until approved by instructor.

6.   When heating a test tube, always point the open end away from you and others. It should be at a slant rather than straight up in most cases.

7.   If glass is broken, the teacher should be informed immediately. Students should not handle broken glass; teachers will dispose of broken glass.

8.   Dispose of all materials as per instruction. Do not assume that all liquids go down the sink!

9.   Dissection equipment can only be used on specimens. Any misuse of dissection tools will result in disciplinary action.

10.  Before class will be dismissed, all equipment and sinks must be clean, and desktops must be clean and dry.

If the above guidelines are not followed, you may not be allowed to participate in the lab and may not receive credit for the activity.

* WIPING TOWEL to clean the table after the experiment

* KNOWLEDGE about circulatory system

* YOUR OWN HEART filled with energy for a new experience

Hi, people!!! Ideal rainy day for a post!  I´ve been surfing the net to find some videos that can help you understand the relationship between surface area and volume. This is a key concept to understand absorption in every part of our bodies.
