The Tissue Fluid Stability in Our Stars

The tittle of this post is connected to a certain film that certain teen  forced her mother to watch once and again over the years :P

After the fun part, let's get down to business!! I'll start with a helper for you to take into account what is really UNFORGETTABLE about excretion!

Here you have two videos to refresh your mind on EXCRETORY SYSTEM, kidneys, nephrons and Osmoregulation  (remember that I will only ask for the names we saw in class)

I'm also including a link to a SUPERB page where you can check your information

http://www.abpischools.org.uk/page/modules/homeostasis_kidneys/kidneys5.cfm?coSiteNavigation_allTopic=1

But Homeostasis is not only about "peeing" and Zac Nephron (CUAC!).  It's also about Respiratory System, the LIVER and the SKIN. This time, instead of my powerpoint presentations, I'm including three webisodes I created for you (in case you want to hear my horrible nasal voice in your head for days!!) explaining my powerpoints. Don't hate me!!

A) EXCRETORY SYSTEM

 B) HOMEOSTASIS

C) SKIN

So How will we remember all these for the end-of-the-year integrative test???!!!!

Ok people, Im closing this long post (looks like a Will and Testament) with a great video that summarises HOMEOSTASIS

Enjoy the post and STUDY a lot!!!!!

PS: Well, for the test, all the powerpoint on Excretory System and Skin will be included as well as all the information on alcohol we have been discussing (plus the videos and webisodes I posted for you).

I Like Big Bones and I Cannot Lie

Hi, people! Have you been resting today??  Me??? Just correcting 😡😡
Let me start this post with one of my fav. bands with one of my fav songs (totally crazy video, isn't it?)

After the musical interval, back to work, people!

We will start working on SKELETAL SYSTEM. On Friday OCTOBER 20th

GROUP 1: Taboada- Lo- Vittola- Comesaña- Fernandez Bula- Mauvezin will explaining to us what a bone is and the function of the knee joint. They have to bring a bone cut longitudinally in halves  and a cow knee (ask the butcher!). The rest of the teams need to bring the bone cut in halves

GROUP 2: Rojas- Caamaño- Castro Expósito- D' Angelo- Rávida- Zerni will put today (if you can) chicken bones in a bowl and cover them with vinegar. Please, take pictures of every step and one picture per day till Friday.

These are some useful videos on SKELETAL System for the brave members of group 1 (remember that is not only about BONES):

* One with our friend HANK (I think you remember him as well as his FIOS brother)

* the second one is a video on the anatomy of a human knee joint

* and the last one is about the BENEFITS of exercising!!!!

I hope you enjoy the task and SMILE!!

PD: Last but not the least, Miley's video that Sofi Cerredo posted for me some years ago that will help you remember the names of the bones

Alcohol, why do you do this to me???

Hi, guys! What about the weekend? Did you have a good time or overwork your liver???
The tittle of my post is connected to these jokes... Poor liver!!!

Well, I just wanted to post all the videos I found really interesting for us to discuss in class and to be included in the test

First, check on the effect of alcohol on the brain

Then, let's see what causes a HANGOVER

Where does this urge to pee come from????

Is there a CURE for HANGOVER????

The problem of alcohol is the LONG TERM EFFECTS!!!

Drinking when you are under 18 is illegal, but it has got an anatomical explanation

And last but not the least... Can we have a water overdose????

Please, watch the videos and make a summary (in the posters groups) to discuss on Thursday.

Keep Calm and Love Your Kidneys

Hi people!!! I hope you are enjoying the relaxation after a great trip to Madryn so, as it´s not my intention to ruin it, I'm starting my post with the old but very funny song about the result of the excretory system and its follow-up trip

 Now, let's get it started
Next FRIDAY we are dissecting the kidney!!!! So, I'm including some videos on dissection for GROUP 4: Chaio- Hernandez- Rodriguez Guarnera- Lionetti- Martin Arias- Rizzo responsible for teaching us how to open the kidney (I´ll give them a mark for that)
Every group will need some material for our experience

* KIDNEY  (cow, pig or sheep) at the butcher's or you can find it at the supermarket
You must bring it to school in a lunch box

LATEX GLOVES ( Each group can buy a box of gloves to have them for later experiments)
* SCALPEL - Two per group  (you can buy them at the drustores near the Faculty of Medicine.- Farmacia Rex, for example)
* WIPING TOWEL to clean the table after the experiment

* KNOWLEDGE about excretory system

* YOUR OWN EXCRETORY SYSTEM with an EMPTY BLADDER

External and internal view:

Once open you will see:

I´m leaving you a great video that summarises HOMEOSTASIS

Enjoy the post and study a lot, group 4!!!!

I Can't Breathe... Until You Are STUDYING Here With Me

Hi people!! How are you doing? What about the return to school after the long wekend??? It won't be easy to BREATHE so early in the morning!! XD

Well, for you to remember that the verb is (to)breathE/d and the noun is BREATH , these are two of  my fav songs that contain these words: HERE WITH ME by DIDO (the tittle of this post is a line in this song)

and "Every step you take" in Glee's version

Have you been reading about
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM???????

I think you might like this video for  an accurate picture of the system. WOW!!!!!

As you  can see, the respiratory system is basically a long tube with two sacs at the end, with NO bones, only cartilages inside the tube (to prevent it from collapsing) and muscles outside the sacs to make them larger or smaller. This tube is covered by a thin EPITHELIUM that is full of CILLIA and secretes MUCUS  to prevent bacteria and other harmful substances to get to the ALVEOLI.

I'm also  including here some videos for you to revise your concepts:

1) An IGCSE video with a whole revision and a FIBROSCOPY of the RESPIRATORY SYSTEM where you'll see a real operating system  :)

2) a 3D explanation on BREATHING and VENTILATION

3) The video I posted like a year ago in my facebook page about the effects of SMOKING on the Respiratory System:

4) Another video about Smoking

5) And last but not the least, a superb tutorial on the LARYNX by Sol Lamanna and Vicky Burone

I hope the videos are useful and fun to watch (well, fun...not really, maybe just interesting) and to start studying  Don't PROCRASTINATE!!!!!

See you on THURSDAY!!!

PS:And a practical work for next FRIDAY, August 25th (in pairs). NO COPYING AND PASTING, I WANT THIS IN YOUR OWN NERDY TALK

1) Explain this statement: Players who are born and live at sea level will have a smaller lung capacity than those who spend their life at a high altitude (such as Bolivian players!!)

2) These are the legs who has just finished a Cycling race. Why do they look like this? What for?

Reyes- Chaio- Martin Arias- Rizzo- Rodriguez Guarnera

GROUP 5: EXCRETORY and SKIN// Photo booth Frame
Fernandez Bula- D' Angelo-  Giustinian- Prola- Rodriguez Sourrouille- Lionetti

INSTRUCTIONS:

You can be as creative as you want and use the materials you want.  Just remember, the due date is Thursday August 3rd for groups 1/2/3/4 and the first Thursday after you come back for group 5

Here you have some pics that can be your inspiration.

It would be great if some of you could copy the old anatomy books plate discs like this one

Group 5 must do the photo booth frame for our new project: THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE. I would like a photo frame that looks like a newspaper page (or whatever you think convenient) that we will stick on the school hall and every Thursday one member of the class will bring something interesting about science to share with the class and the school. The frame would be something like this:

Well, go on relaxing and enjoying with friends while I'll be at home, super sad correcting tests...hahaha
